Verified as a complete assembly.

Our design is verified as a complete assembly under IEC 61439 at the Central Power Research Institute, Bhopal — with the rating, the withstand figure, the protection class and the switchgear make all on the record.

What it means

The questions worth asking any panel builder.

What does “total type tested” actually mean?
IEC 61439 sets out a series of design verifications an assembly must pass — short-circuit withstand, temperature rise, dielectric properties, degree of protection, clearances and creepage distances, mechanical operation and more. When a design is verified against the full set as a complete assembly, at a recognised laboratory, it is a total type tested assembly. The test proves the enclosure, busbar system, switchgear and their interaction behave as designed under fault conditions — not just that the components are individually rated.
How is that different from “partial type tested” or “CPRI approved”?
A partially type tested assembly verifies some characteristics by test and derives the rest by calculation or by comparison with a tested design. It is permitted, and it is cheaper, but it is a weaker proof. “CPRI approved” on its own says even less: it does not state what was tested, at what rating, with whose switchgear. When you compare quotes, ask each builder for the rating, the withstand figure, the switchgear make and the laboratory. The answer separates the field quickly.
Why does the short-circuit figure matter so much?
Under a fault the busbar system sees enormous electromagnetic forces. 50 kA for one second means the assembly was proven to contain a 50,000 A fault for a full second without the busbars deforming, the insulators failing or the enclosure opening. That is what protects the people standing in front of the panel. It is the single most important number on this page.
Does the switchgear make matter to the certificate?
Yes. A type test certificate is valid for the assembly as tested, including the switchgear used in it. Ours was carried out with Schneider Electric switchgear, so the verification covers the combination we actually build.
